Outgoing Chief-of-Staff of the Guyana Defence Force Rear Admiral Gary Best handed over the leadership of the GDF to new Chief-of-Staff  Brigadier Mark Phillips.

Best is retiring from the army after serving the institution for over three decades with the latter part of his tenure as Head of the GDF.

In his parting address Best challenged the new Chief-of-Staff to be inspired by the desire to lead and further develop the Guyana Defence Force.

Real Admiral Best also had advice for Officers and Ranks of the GDF. He said they must discharge their constitutional duty in such a manner as to earn the respect of the people of Guyana.

Best said it is clear that defence and national security goes beyond the defence force as he made a pitch for improvements in the air and marine services.

The passing out ceremony was held at base Camp Ayanganna and was attended by Commander-In-Chief, President Donald Ramotar, members of parliament and other military dignitaries from around the region.
